Mishaps

Jake, Here's One For You. Oops!

Jake, of Team Seacats, brought to my attention that the previous post, "Wednesday Wipeout," was in fact not a wipeout since the boat pictured recovered and did not picthpole. That's what happens when you have a sloppy staff writer who would rather watch wahines at the beach than do thorough research. (note: there is only one staff writer at "The Horse's Mouth.....Oops.) So in my zeal to protect the public interest I present to you the photo above. I would say that it qualifies as a wipeout. I apologize and ask for your forgiveness for my mistake. Now pour me a double shot of tequila and let's get back to the movie.

Start bailing!

Oh shit!

Next stop, Davey Jones' Locker.

The five crew of the J/24 Juvenile Deliquent were rescued just seconds before their upturned boat sank stern-first into the waters of Weymouth Bay on Sunday. The incident happened in the first race of the British National Championships in winds of 25-29 knots and big seas. More at sailkarma.

Update: Great minds think a like - Glu glu glu.

I Know I Had A Better Weekend Than These Guys.

Down she goes!

From Latitude 38:
A maiden voyage is typically a memorable event. But four Bay Area residents will certainly never forget their first sail aboard Elenaki, their fiberglass-hulled Folkboat which sank off Sausalito yesterday. Boat partners Jim McKee and Markos Kounalakis with his five- and six-year-old boys set out from Sausalito Yacht Harbor after christening Elenaki, when at about 12:30 p.m. they noticed the boat's freeboard diminishing.

"We did not have a lot of reaction time," Kounalakis said. "As I went down to grab the radio, the interior was already full of water — the boat sank within 30 seconds."

What a drag. The good thing is that they were rescued by a passerby.

Glug, glug, glug. Down she goes.

THE Greek-flag, 6,395 gt general cargo ship Ice Prince, that was abandoned
by its crew yesterday, sank early this morning in very rough weather about
26 miles south south east of the Portland Bill, England.
